Website updated, running on Drupal now

Hey,

It has now been a long time WordPress was my only website still running on MySQL. As my server only has 256MB of RAM and serves a whole lot of other services I thought it would help to move my website to Drupal and get rid of MySQL.

So, this is the first post on the new website running Drupal 6. I’m still trying to find a way to import the old posts other than doing it by hand. So if any of you has a good script to import WordPress 2.5’s posts into a Drupal 6.x DB please send me a mail or just post a comment 🙂

I also want to use this post to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in Hardy Heron’s testing for the great job you did. All testcases were done in less than two days, upgrade testing and Windows testing included.

Until we have our first set of images to test for Intrepid’s Alpha1 I’m working on improving iTalc’s packaging.
In case you don’t know it, iTalc is the new teacher/student classroom interface used by Edubuntu.
The version I’m working on can be found in our team’s PPA. It includes Avahi support to auto-generate classrooms, LTSP in-chroot installation and is based on the latest iTalc from upstream (1.0.8).

By the way, I’ll be at FOSSCamp in Prague on the 16th and 17th (of May) discussing various subjects from QA testing, Ubuntu’s brainstorm website and of course Edubuntu, LTSP and iTalc.

I haven’t seen a way to convert from wordpress to drupal 6 directly. The way I ended up doing it was exporting the wordpress blog as xml (there’s an option on the UI), and using wp2drupal, then upgrading to drupal 6.

Good luck on finding a less painful way!

How did you loose MySQL by moving to Drupal? Isnt that based on MySQL as well?

And also, what is so bad about MySQL?

    1. stgraber says:

Drupal can use MySQL or PostgreSQL.
MySQL isn’t bad but it was the only website on this server using it so I had a whole MySQL server for a single website. Considering that my server has only 256MB of RAM, removing MySQL give me something like 10% of free memory.

    Hey there,

I am just curious as to what Drupal theme this is? I have a Drupal 5 website, and I am looking for something different from the defaul theme. Also, I hate to bug you, but I am wondering if there is an easy way to upgrade from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6 on Ubuntu. drupal5 was the only package I could find.

    Thanks!

      Hi,

The theme is greenNblack that I probably downloaded from : http://drupal2u.com/2008/03/free-drupal-theme-greennblack/

I’m not using the packaged version of Drupal but the one directly from http://www.drupal.org.
Looking at Hardy/Intrepid, I only see 5.x in the repository but the name change from “drupal” to “drupal5” let me think that a “drupal6” will probably be available in Intrepid.
